The Cold War in AsiaThe American Involvement in the Korean War reflected the American policy of containment of communism (Truman Doctrine)
Included a temporary division at the 38th Parallel by the Allies after WWII North - Communist South - Democratic North Korea invaded South Korea in 1950. The UN reacted with a "police action" and sent troops. American Military forces led a counterattack that drove deep into North Korea and the war threatened to widen. China defeated the UN troops. MacArthur stabilized the situation and call for bombing which President Truman rejected. Truman dismissed MacArthur for insubordination (failure to follow orders). (1951) The war ended in a stalemate with South Korea free of communist occupation.
